QA Manager


Company Overview:
Develop and maintain a system to ensure that all products manufactured by the organization meet customer specifications and achieve superior quality and reliability levels. Must ensure that the plant maintains all sanitation standards prescribed by all regulatory agencies and customers, including GMPs and HACCP. The incumbent supports the production of a safe, high quality product and team member safety. In incumbent’s absence, QA Coordinator will act as deputy.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  •  Develop and implement a quality production program to ensure conformity of purchased raw material, packaging and finished products to quality standards.
  •  Meet with vendors, customers, quality representatives and company personnel to discuss and resolve quality problems as required but to all also drive continuous quality improvement.
  •  Credits, revises and updates the quality manual which includes, but is not limited to, Good Manufacturing Practices and Standard Operating Procedures.
  •  Prepares for and represents the company during regulatory and customer audits.
  •  Approves all sample submissions of new products, labelling and engineering changes.
  •  Prepares necessary reports as required by customers and staff personnel.
  •  Works in conjunction with the Customer Service Department to respond to customer complaints and work to eliminate the causes of the problems. Responsible for analysis, tracking, and reporting customer complaint performance to staff and team members.
  •  Educate production supervisors and employees on product specifications
  •  Develop product, raw material and packaging specifications and ensures timely updates of same.
  •  Coordinate acceptance testing of product, packaging and raw materials.
  •  Develop weight control policy and monitor adherence to such, including training and performance tracking / reporting.
  •  Develop and implement rework program, including add-back percent, auditing, shelf life effects and total usage.
  •  Improve or develop new, impactful quality management processes (e.g. Statistical Control). responsibility.
  •  Develop, implement and monitor a plant cleaning schedule.
  •  Manage the housekeeping and sanitation function for the company. Must meet acceptable levels of sanitation standards within departmental budget constraints.
  •  Maintain production sampling plan.
  •  Ensure lot tracking and full traceability programs are in-place and executed.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Education: Bachelors Degree, preferably in Food Science, Chemistry or Microbiology.
  • Formalized training in Quality Principles.
  • Experience: 2 - 7 years experience in Quality Management preferably in a food manufacturing
  • environment.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

  • Familiarity with food processing equipment.

PHYSICAL EFFORT

  •  There is a limited amount of lifting involved in the position.
  •  There is a moderate to high amount of walking/standing involved when incumbent is in the plant.
  •  There is a high sensory requirement for sight (color standards) and taste.
  •  Mental focus is high as the incumbent must be consistently monitoring product being produced.


WORKING CONDITIONS/HAZARDS

  • Approximately half of the employee’s work will be conducted in the plant facility, which has a decibel noise level of 85-90db. Hearing protection should be worn the majority of the time.
