Shipping, Recieving, and Laboratory Support Specialist

Apex Life sciences is currently recruiting for a Shipping and Receiving Assistant for the Laboratory area of a local Buffalo Biotech company.  This is an immediately available opportunity and will be conducting interviews as soon as possible.

              

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS

The major responsibilities of the Shipping, Receiving and Laboratory Support specialist include shipping and completing required documentation for all chemicals, finished goods, equipment, and returns leaving and received at the Buffalo facility; maintenance of cleanliness of laboratories through, but not limited to, collection of used glassware from central collection sites, cleaning of laboratory floors and glassware according to a defined schedule, and the upkeep of general use glassware, supply and reagent inventories within laboratories.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 

  • Preparation and processing of all shipments and related documentation from the Buffalo site.
  •  
  • Receiving and distribution for all materials delivered to the client site.
  •  
  • Ensure materials for shipping are packaged in containers conforming to current regulations.
  •  
  • Determine the most efficient bundling method (palletizing or individual packages).  Prepare the shipping label, packing list, bill of lading, and other shipping documentation as necessary and in compliance with all applicable regulations.
  •  
  • Maintain shipping information and files, including working copies of certificates of analysis and bills of lading for hazardous material shipments.  Resolve any errors with the shipping carriers.
  •  
  • Prepare and/or repackage international samples that are going to domestic customers as needed.
  •  
  • Prepare and package Company samples that are outgoing for analysis and maintain information on a spreadsheet.
  •  
  • Perform scheduled housekeeping duties as required including, but not limited to, cleaning of laboratory floors and glassware; and maintenance of inventories of general use items in laboratories.

  • Perform all duties in compliance with workplace safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and all applicable federal, state and local regulations.

  • Recommend and if approved by supervisor, implement methods to increase the quality and efficiency of your duties.

  • Participate in self-development activities and training of others.
  •  
  • Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices.
  •  
  • Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business or as requested by supervisor or management.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Computer literacy including use of Email and MS Excel
  • No experience required 
  • Willingness to work with chemicals in a laboratory setting

 

Language/Communication Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.  Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.  The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; outside weather conditions; and risk of electrical shock.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme heat, and vibration.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
