Lab Technician


  • 3 days/week (24-36 hours)
  • Able to work night shift preferably (6p to 6a) or (6p to 2a)
  • Preferably with experience in an analytical lab or a degree in chemistry or microbiology



  • Minimum 2 years/prefer 4 years post secondary education with emphasis in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Environmental, Quality Assurance or related technical discipline
  • Minimum 1-2 years Quality Assurance/Control laboratory/analytical testing experience or related experience
  • Strong problem solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying and solving problems
  • Good communication and influence skills
  • Experience and desire to work in a team environment
  • Strong statistical skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Willingness to learn new tasks and take on additional accountability to support the QRO function
  • Schedule flexibility is required. Rotating weekend work, overtime, and off shift coverage is required


  • Relevant food or pharmaceutical manufacturing experience
  • Understanding of risk assessment and regulatory requirements
  • Familiarity of HPLC and auto titration instrumentation and techniques
  • Results oriented
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Knowledge of OSHA chemical safety requirements/hazardous materials training
  • Basic understanding of continuous improvement processes
  • Relevant work experience in an ISO environment


  • Daily analytical (chemical and physical) testing of ingredients, packaging, and finished products
  • Data entry into computer-based information system (MQIS)
  • Approval of product against product specifications (PLM)
  • Troubleshooting out of specification product, handling hold orders through the HiFi (SAP) system, and making sound risk decisions
  • Working closely in partnership with team leaders and operators to evaluate food safety and quality risks, influence appropriate decisions and support plant productivity
  • Manage quality or food safety related risk decisions on off shift, involving others as required
  • Internal reference material (IRM) program activities and SPC control charting and analysis
  • Intermediate knowledge of instrumentation and troubleshooting
  • Startup, changeover, and bulk pack inspections and other sanitation accountabilities
  • Sensory panel leadership and participation
  • Perform environmental monitoring program swabbing
  • Chemical solutions makeup and equipment calibrations
  • Lead designated quality programs such as retain management, glass and brittle plastic, COA management, bulk pack formula auditing, internal system auditing
